Between Trash and Hope – The Story of Three Little Puppies
It was a moment we will never forget. Thursday, somewhere near Bangli.
We were riding our scooter towards the hotel when suddenly a desperate, heartbreaking cry pierced the silence. It hit us straight in the heart. We stopped – and found ourselves in the middle of a nightmare.
A tiny puppy was lying there, all alone, crying out in fear and pain. Just skin and bones, filthy, abandoned.
My partner parked the scooter a bit further away – and that’s when he saw them: two more siblings. Motionless, half-hidden among garbage bags and rubble.
As I gently placed the crying little one next to the others, I realized her hind legs were injured. She could hardly move. And yet she screamed – out of pure desperation for life.
We still hoped their mother might return. But we couldn’t take them with us on the scooter. So we rode on – but our hearts stayed behind.
Back at our accommodation, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. I convinced the owner to drive back with us by car.
What we saw upon return choked us: no mother anywhere. No shelter. No food. No water. The puppies were lying in the trash – discarded like waste.
And then we found her: little Cherry. Curled up, lifeless. No sound. No movement. We thought she was already gone.
But as we came closer, we saw it – the faintest rise and fall of her chest. She was breathing. So shallow. So weak. But alive.
We gently placed her with the others, gave them water, some food, and warmth. For the moment, they were safe.
But we had to leave again – heading toward Sanur. And our hearts were torn.
Once in Sanur, after a long night of thinking, my partner said what I couldn’t bring myself to say:
“They won’t survive on their own. There must be someone who can help.”
And then we found you: the Bali Dog Association.
Without hesitation, you acted. No questions. No delay.
You launched a rescue mission where others might have turned away.
Cherry has since been examined: She’s suffering from a bacterial infection, anemia, and a possible nerve injury near her spine. Only one of her back legs still reacts to pain. She’s receiving pain relief, daily physiotherapy, calcium, and so much love – and she’s fighting.
Thank you. For your compassion. For your heart. For Cherry, her siblings – and all the voiceless souls out there.
Please donate to the Bali Dog Association.
These puppies desperately need your help – without our intervention, they likely wouldn’t have survived the next few days.
